The ICAO map 1:500,000 is the standard map for conducting VFR flights and covers the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany including neighboring countries (multicolored with forest overprint and shading). It contains all important topography and air traffic control information such as:

  • Current airspace structure and topography
  • VFR reporting points
  • Aerodromes with name, location code and frequency, runway length and orientation, and traffic pattern location
  • FIS sectors with frequencies
  • Glider area, area for hang gliders and microlight aircraft,
  • Parachute drop area, free balloon launch sites (only available in the 2022 edition of the map)
  • Radio navigation systems (NDB, VOR, VOR/DME, VORTAC) with name, frequency and identifier in Morse code
  • Aviation Obstacles and Maximum Elevation Figures
  • isogons
  • highway designations
  • Display of intensively used skydiving areas (skydiving symbol plus red circle)
  • Areas with mandatory radio communication (RMZ), areas with mandatory transponder switching (TMZ) and aerodrome traffic zones (ATZ)
  • Display of the final approaches of IFR traffic at selected IFR airports

 The ICAO 1:500,000 aeronautical chart provides the following information on the back in addition to an overview chart for the cut of the sheet:

  • Overview of Germany's airspace structure
  • Information on transponder and altimeter settings
  • ATIS Frequencies
  • light signals
  • Integrated coordinate ruler
